Hello, world!

Portrait of the Author

Portrait of the author. More flattering than reality is.

My name’s Taylor Vincent, and I am a 21-year-old college student in Madison, WI.  This website is a combination blog and collection of writings from the past few years. It was originally constructed as a sort of ‘author’s website’ as a project for my Adv. Writing class.

If you’re looking for a place to start, you may wish to try Wilson, Wisconsin. It’s a collection of stories about a fictionalization of my hometown of Monroe, Wisconsin. I also have a few more stories, now, (okay, fanfics, fine, you wrung it out of me) (actually, you know what? Gonna start calling it established continuity fiction after all) based on World of Warcraft here. Chances are that if you’re here, you want to read those.

Everything here is written in the traditional Hodgman method: that is, these stories are not written with any special equipment besides the English language and a standard Sentence Machine. If you like my stuff, please pass it on – link it on your blog, put it on your Facebook wall, print it out and read it to your friend that runs a magazine that pays money for short stories. I put it online for fun, so pass it on and bring someone else some laughs.

Everything here is licensed under Creative CommonsAttribution, Non-Commercial, Share Alike. That basically means that if you tell someone about it, keep my name (and hopefully URL) on it, don’t use it to sell anything (though why you would is beyond me), and if for some reason you decide “Hey, I want to write a story using these characters or this setting,” then whatever you write has to be Creative Commons licensed the same way mine is (minus the share-alike, I’ll give you that leeway).

Why Creative Commons? The short answer is because I doubt I’ll ever see a penny for these stories, (fixed) they’re just there to make people laugh and cry and all that other ’emotion’ flimflam. The long answer is the short answer plus the fact that I get to tack a ‘me too’ onto the format used by Jonathan Coulton, TWiT, NIИ, and many other awesome people.

My e-mail’s not on the site because I don’t feel like being spammed, but if you’re reading this and need a means to reach me, feel free to leave a comment somewhere or simply send me a note on Twitter.

Finally, if somehow you find yourself madly in love with these works, there are a couple things you’re welcome to do. If you purchase the in-progress Wilson, Wisconsin from Scribd, you get free updates with all of my material as it comes out. Since that’s insane, however, feel free to become a fan on Facebook or just to tell your friends – especially the ones in the publishing industry. Any support at all for my writings, whether it be positive feedback or a donation in the form of purchasing a story, is deeply appreciated.

That’s about all. Thanks for reading, and please leave a comment!
